As the new season fast approaches fantasy managers have big decisions to make on who to put their faith in for the coming season. While the likes of Golden Boot winner Mo Salah and top assist provider Kevin De Bruyne are going to be some of the top picks, there are bargains out there who could score well for your team for relatively little cost.
Here are eight players you should consider for your Fantasy Premier League side…
Roberto Firmino – Forward, £9.5m (Liverpool)
If you don’t feel like spending the £13m on Mohamed Salah, then an alternate option for a Liverpool forward could be Roberto Firmino.
Firmino was the third highest points scoring forward last season and has scored over 150 points in each of the three seasons he has been at Liverpool. Firmino’s price tag means he is a cheaper option than Gabriel Jesus and Romelu Lukaku in the forward department and £3.5m cheaper than his teammate Salah. Firmino isn’t much of a wildcard pick however, with the Brazilian so far the second most selected player amongst managers just behind Salah.
Jonas Lössl – Goalkeeper, £4.5m (Huddersfield)
Huddersfield may have finished 16th last season with the second worst goal difference but that didn’t stop keeper Jonas Lössl from having an impressive debut season in terms of Fantasy points scoring.
The Danish keeper scored 135 points last season making him the ninth highest scoring keeper from last season who remains this season. Lössl even outscored fellow countryman Kasper Schmeichel and yet remains £0.5m cheaper than the Leicester stopper. Be wary though he does face Chelsea and Manchester City in his first two matches, so maybe wait until Huddersfield’s home game against Cardiff in Gameweek 3.
Martin Dubravka – Goalkeeper, £5m (Newcastle)
Newcastle may look like a side in trouble going into the season after a lack of recruitment during the summer but the permanent signing of Martin Dubravka could prove to be a vital piece of business for the Magpies.
The Slovakian managed four clean sheets and 53 points in just 12 appearances after signing on loan last January. His £5m price tag may seem expensive for a Newcastle goalkeeper but Rafa Benitez knows how to set up his side defensively and other than Burnley, Newcastle conceded the least amount of goals outside the top six.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Defender, £4m (Crystal Palace)
At £4m Aaron Wan-Bissaka is as cheap as you can get in Fantasy Premier League. The young full back impressed last season making seven appearances for the Eagles and looks likely to be the first choice right-back for Roy Hodgson’s side at the start of the season. 9.9% of managers have already seen the value in Wan-Bissaka and his side face a favourable run of fixtures at the beginning of the season, only facing one of the top six in their first nine matches.
Benjamin Mendy – Defender, £6m (Manchester City)
The forgotten man at Manchester City in a sense, Benjamin Mendy may have missed most of last season through injury but after winning the World Cup in France the full back looks set to have a big part to play for Pep Guardiola’s side. Mendy only played 360 minutes in the league last season but still managed to score 20 points and his attacking runs from left back should see him register plenty of assists for the free scoring Citizens.

Diogo Jota – Midfielder, £6.5m (Wolves)
If you fancy taking a chance on a player from a newly-promoted side then you could do a lot worse than selecting Wolves’ Diogo Jota. The former Atletico Madrid and Porto midfielder was instrumental in Wolves’ promotion last season, finishing the season as the sides top scorer with 17 goals.
Jota will look to make runs off the striker and find himself in attacking positions, making his £6.5m price tag a real snip for a midfielder. The signing of Joao Moutinho alongside Ruben Neves should help create chances for Jota and his teammates and Fantasy managers should feel confident about Jota’s ability to step up to the challenge of the Premier League.
Richarlison – Midfielder, £6.5m (Everton)
After a great start to last season with Watford, Richarlison faded in the second half of the season but still managed eight goals and eight assists and the Brazilian ended with 125 points, more than Mesut Ozil, Bernardo Silva and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Now back under the management of Marco Silva after his big money move to Everton, Richarlison will be hoping to recapture the form he showed in his early months in the Premier League. Everton’s opening fixtures look set to allow Richarlison the opportunity to make an early impact with home games against Southampton, Huddersfield and West Ham in their first five fixtures.
Wilfred Zaha – Forward, £7m (Crystal Palace)
Normally regarded as a midfielder in Fantasy Premier League, Zaha’s performances as the main forward for Palace has seen him made a forward in this seasons games.
Don’t let that put you off though as Zaha is pivotal to the way Palace play and could well improve on his 136 point total that he managed last season after scoring nine goals and registering seven assists. Palace have decided against bringing in another forward in the summer so Zaha should once again be given a role free of defensive responsibilities. His £7m price tag is relatively cheap for a forward and will allow you to splash the cash elsewhere in your team.
