Another Premier League weekend full of goals and incident left us with plenty to talk about. But who among the highly-paid luminaries that grace the league impressed us enough to make it into Names of the Premier League?

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Manchester City continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 6-0 thrashing of Watford at Vicarage Road. The result means Manchester City have scored 15 goals in their last three games in all competitions.

One man who has been a key part of this scoring run is Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian netted a hat-trick against Watford, meaning he has now scored in each game since being left out the side in the away victory over Bournemouth.

Aguero opened the scoring for City after 27 minutes with a well-placed header from a Kevin De Bruyne free kick. His second, four minutes later, was even simpler as he tapped in a pass from David Silva from just a couple yards out.

There had been questions over whether Aguero and Gabriel Jesus could play together but those fears have been calmed in recent weeks as Aguero for the second week running set up Jesus for a goal. Nicolas Otamendi increased City’s lead to four just past the hour mark before Aguero completed his hat-trick in fine style, picking up the ball on the right-hand side before weaving his way past challenges and sliding the ball in off the post.

Aguero is now only three goals away from becoming City’s record goalscorer and just two from matching the record set by Eric Brook (177 goals). If not selected for the Carabao Cup game against West Brom, Aguero could well beat the record when City host bottom of the league Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Matt Ritchie (Newcastle United)

Newcastle United increased their winning run to three as they saw off the challenge of Stoke City with a 2-1 win at St James’ Park. The win moves the newly promoted side into the top four, albeit at an early stage of the season.

Jamaal Lascelles took the headlines last week and netted the winner once again – but it was the performance of wide man Matt Ritchie which inspired Newcastle to victory. The former Bournemouth man was the creative spark Newcastle needed and set up both goals for the home side.

The opener came after 19 minutes. Ritchie floated a perfectly weighted ball to the back post which allowed his fellow winger Christian Atsu to run onto the ball and powerfully finish first time beyond Jack Butland. Newcastle – and in particular ex-Stoke forward Joselu – spurned chances to increase their lead, before Xherdan Shaqiri levelled in the second half with a controlled curling strike from outside the box. However, Newcastle would not be denied. Just ten minutes later Lascelles diverted Ritchie’s corner in off the bar to give the Magpies all three points.

Ritchie has now assisted four of Newcastle’s six league goals so far this season. His delivery from set pieces could be crucial for Newcastle this seasons with the aerial threat of Joselu, Lascelles and Aleksandar Mitrovic amongst others.

Mario Lemina (Southampton)

New manager, same problems for Crystal Palace as they failed to score once again and lost at home to a Southampton side who themselves had only scored in one of their league matches prior to their visit to Selhurst Park

The only goal of the game came just six minutes into the game with Dusan Tadic showing good footwork on the right before his cross was palmed away only to Steven Davis who stroked the ball with his left foot into the bottom left corner. The Saints comfortably saw out the game with Palace only having two real moments of quality with Fraser Forster alert to deny both Christian Benteke and Jason Puncheon either side of half time.

Southampton’s control of the game was partly down to the performance of Mario Lemina. Lemina was signed for a deal worth up to £18.1 million in the summer from Italian champions Juventus and his performance showed why he was one of the used substitutes during their Champions League final against Real Madrid. Lemina showed composure and control on the ball, ending the game with a pass completion of 90%. He had more touches, made more tackles and won possession more than any other player on the pitch.

Last season, Southampton’s star man was Oriol Romeu but Claude Puel could never find the right man to partner the Spaniard in midfield with the likes of Jordy Clasie and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg selected alongside him. The partnership of Romeu and Lemina though shows real signs of promise for Southampton and Mauricio Pellegrino will have a solid basis for his team to build upon.

Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea City)

Swansea City responded to their home defeat to Newcastle last week with a battling point away to Tottenham Hotspur. The result means Spurs are still looking for their first Premier League win at Wembley.

Spurs dominated the match with ¾ of total possession over the course of the game and they were able to create chances with 26 attempts, 8 of which hit the target. However, the home side found Lukasz Fabianski in inspired form as he produced a number of great saves to keep Swansea in the game.

Fabianski was tested in the first half with his best save denying Harry Kane from a long range free kick. The Polish international was kept busy in the second half too and was there again to prevent Heung-Min Son scoring from close range as well as tipping a Harry Kane header over the bar. Kane had previously managed to beat Fabianski but his close range effort rebounded off the frame of the goal.

The clean sheet will delight Swansea City manager Paul Clement who has now seen his side keep three clean sheets in their opening five games.

Antonio Valencia (Manchester United)

Manchester United reacted to their neighbour’s high scoring victory with a big win of their own as they eventually defeated Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford.

United took the lead after just four minutes after a powerful first time drive from Antonio Valencia but struggled to maintain their early performance as Everton threatened to get back into the game until Henrik Mkhitaryan’s 83rd minute finish. United then made sure of the points in the final few minutes with goals from Everton’s former striker Romelu Lukaku and an Anthony Martial penalty.

Valencia’s hit from 25 yards gave United the cushion that their performance needed as they relied on a couple of good saves from David De Gea to prevent Everton from equalising. Valencia has been a mainstay in the Manchester United side for the past few seasons and was solid again defensively for the Red Devils with Everton mainly targeting Ashley Young at left back rather than the Ecuadorian.
